Day 1 finish Lourensford to Grabouw. Stunning views from Sir Lowry pass and challenging single track and hilly route

Day 1 en route

Day 2 Carel and Willem at the finish. Their first stage race and they finished well and had lots of fun.

Caren at the finish of day 2

Me at the finish of day 2. The route of day 2 took us through famous Oak Valley single track, Paul Cluver farm and rocky single track in Lebanon. Overall fun and bit of rest for day 3.

Day 3 Grabouw to Onrus. Hilly route again but lots of single again with some difficult switchbacks and a headwind didn’t make it an easy day. My legs had no power but managed to hang in there and pushed into beautiful finish by beach in Onrus. Overall result 4th place in sub vet women. Amazing route, great organizing and lot of friends made it a superb fun weekend.

Cape Pioneer 2012

Prologue at Buffelsdrift

Great single track at Buffelsdrift Oudshoorn made us feel like we ride in the middle of Kruger park.

Day 5 Louvain to George, 60 km, 1500 m climbing

Organizers had to cut 15 km of single track out because of mud but it was still challenging route with steep climb and rocky slippery descent then bit of tar road for a change and great single track in forest coming into George.

Having Beet it for stamina and energy at the start

When we got to Swarterberg pass after almost 5 hours of riding it felt quite different then riding it on fresh legs!

Carmen at the finish. Day 6 – George to Oudshoorn, 85 km, 1700 m ascent

Great single track in forest followed by Montaqu pass that was a climb of the day. Rainy but beautiful! The rain got harder and mud got really bad on gravel roads coming into Oudshoorn. Impressed by my bike lasting in that mud I had shower at the finish in clothes and shoes to wash the horrendous mud of. Delicious ostrich steak awaited us the VIP Bridge tent and tasted best ever!
