Tulbagh weekend away

We have gotten a voucher to Vindoux Guest farm in Tulbagh as our wedding gift. May seemed to be a good month to go as its not too hot any more and not rainy yet but a beautiful autumn colors are to be seen at this time. The accommodation in a honeymoon tree house was stunning. The view out of the room on the mountains and zebras, buffaloes and springboks was very romantic. In the morning they bring you a breakfast that we had in bed.

We hopped on our bikes and off we went exploring. I have done the MTN Tulbagh this year so was keen to do some of that route again. Unfortunately I have been still recovering from a nasty cold so couldn’t go too fast or too long.

We have done the black and green route in Schalkenbosch. You can buy the permit and map at the Shell Garage in Tulbagh. The circular route takes you up to the dam and around beautiful vineyards. After about 10 km steady uphill on a gravel road the route takes you down fun single track and back to the start. We saw even some Zebras along the way. it was about 36 Kmart from Vindoux Guest farm, 5kms from town. There are more routes to explore but are not marked. we will have to explore that next time.

Places we went to eat:

The Bush Pub

That’s where the local goes to watch rugby and eat good food. We had beef fillet, salad and baked potato served with delicious sour cream and mushroom sauce. Very tasty! Good service and nice vibe. Good to bring kids too as there was little playground in nice garden.

The Rijks Country House

We went there for lunch and sat outside with stunning view on the vineyard and mountains and the whole valley. We had beef burger which was good but not special. Then caper se salad and chicken salad both were very tasty and nice. You can also do wine tasting there.

Overall I can recommend Tulbagh as a great getaway not too far from Cape Town and really lovely nature and rest from the city.
